fra ADAC: Mercedes-Benz C-Class (2007-2015) Diesel
The Mercedes C-Class (W204 series) was manufactured from 2007 to 2015. The model was available as a sedan, T-model (station wagon) and coupe. During a facelift in 2011, the front was heavily reworked and the technology was also updated. Mercedes has not forgotten important virtues and so this C-Class, for example, is well made and high-quality materials were used, especially after the facelift. The suspension comfort is already very good with the standard chassis.
The successful sound insulation and the comfortable seats make the C-Class a pleasant vehicle to travel in. The precise steering with good feedback, the powerful braking system and the otherwise high level of safety are also pleasing. The fact that the sedan's trunk volume is rather small can be overlooked - there is a little more space available in the station wagon.
If you often travel with more than two people, you should go for the T-model, because the second row of seats offers more freedom of movement. It is largely uncomplicated to operate.
The C-Class scores excellently in the TÜV defect report and receives a defect-free sticker far more often than average. Only chassis joints and rusty brake lines cause problems now and then. In the ADAC breakdown statistics, models after the facelift are among the best cars, while older models do worse.
Overall, the 204 series is considered a reliable long-distance runner and certainly lives up to Mercedes' advertising slogan. Recommendation: There are various diesel engines with four and six cylinders for the C-Class. Around 70% of vehicles on the used car market have an automatic transmission with five or seven gears. However, an automatic transmission is a much better fit for a real Mercedes anyway.
The entry-level engine in the C 200 CDI is already completely sufficient with its 136 hp and early torque. A 220 is a little more powerful, the 250 is almost sporty with its 204 hp.
The four-cylinder diesels may not be the best running machines, but they are considered to be long-distance runners - the high mileage of many taxis is a testament to this.
The smooth-running six-cylinder engines in the C 300 CDI, C 320 CDI and C 350 CDI with 224 to 265 hp are almost luxurious. Their fuel consumption is higher than that of the four-cylinder, but in absolute terms it is still within limits. These engines have plenty of power in every situation and are also the first choice for frequent trailer use.
The happy medium is the C 220 CDI with 170 hp and automatic. Fast performance and low consumption are in harmony here, and the selection on the used car market is large. good workmanship, very reliable technology, comfortable driving characteristics, high level of safety
PLUS: Comfortable seats, precise steering, large selection of used cars, powerful diesel engines
MINUS: narrow rear, relatively small body space, partly simple materials until facelift, grumbling four-cylinder diesel, rusting rear axle supports
